Save the Children New Zealand concerned for the people of central Philippines

/ news

Just over a year since Typhoon Haiyan hit the Philippines causing massive loss of life and wide-scale destruction, there are concerns another super typhoon may bare down on Central Philippines this weekend.
Typhoon Hagupit, known in the Philippines as Typhoon Ruby, is forecast to hit the same region destroyed by Haiyan November 2013.

Save the Children NZ Chief Executive Heather Hayden says the communities in the line of the storm are still incredibly vulnerable after Haiyan.

" We have been working with children and their families in this region teaching them how to prepare for disaster but we hope that any storm will have a minimal effect on the area. “

Save the Children has emergency supplies ready for distribution, including equipment to provide clean water to communities in affected regions, emergency shelter kits for home repairs, hygiene equipment to try and keep communities clean and safe and healthy.

We also have teams which will set up child friendly spaces as quickly as possible to protect children from the chaos of an emergency situation.
