Embassy and FILCOM conclude 18-day campaign to end Violence Against Women (VAW)
We held a talk and gathering with the Wellington FilCom. Rob McCann, Manager of the NZ White Ribbon Movement (to end domestic violence), and Aleisha Amohia, President, Wellington Branch of the National Council of Women of New Zealand addressed the gathering. The End VAW campaign is observed annually in the Philippines from November 25 to December 12 with the 2016-2021 theme of “VAW-free community starts with Me”. The Embassy has been handling VAW cases, the most common being economic where there is neglect or failure to provide financial support to families in the Philippines. Moreover, at the height of the Covid-19 lockdowns, there have sadly been incidents in the community of physical, sexual, psychological and emotional abuse, such as cyber-sextortion, digital voyeurism, and sex offending.
