The Philippine Embassy in Wellington warmly joins the celebration of National Heritage Month
The Philippine Embassy in Wellington warmly joins the celebration of National Heritage Month this May. In line with the festivities, we are pleased to share the official poster prepared by the National Commission for Culture and the Arts for National Heritage Month 2026, bearing the theme: “Roots and Horizons: Our Shared Heritage, Our Collective Future.”
At the center of this year’s theme is the banig, a symbol of connection, continuity, and community. Much like how each strand of the banig is carefully woven, our heritage is shaped by the many stories, traditions, and identities that connect us as Filipinos across generations. Surrounding the banig are depictions of diverse communities, reminding us that heritage is shared by all of us, lived, practiced, and passed down through everyday life.
The rising sun in the poster reflects hope, while its vibrant colors symbolize the richness and dynamism of Filipino cultural expressions. As we honor National Heritage Month, we are encouraged not only to reflect on and take pride in our past but also to actively participate in preserving and carrying our heritage into the future. Our heritage is a living legacy, nurtured by collective care and shared responsibility.
Let us come together to honor our roots and shape our collective future.
